Get in the Game, and Set It and Forget It: Practical Strategies for High-Quality Remote Supervision

Remote supervision has become a standard delivery model, yet most guidance focuses on compliance rather than clinical effectiveness. This session addresses the practical and clinical mechanics of conducting high-quality supervision at a distance. Attendees will learn how to reduce the response effort burden on supervisees during remote sessions, establish real-time coaching communication using low-cost tools, and shift from passive observation to active therapeutic presence when clinically appropriate. Content is drawn from over twelve years of applied experience in telehealth and supervision contexts.

1. 1Following this session, attendees will be able to: (1) identify at least two modifications to remote session setup that reduce supervisee response effort and improve session continuity; (2) describe a method for delivering real-time coaching during remote sessions without disrupting client-directed intervention; (3) identify criteria for determining when active BCBA participation in a remote session is clinically appropriate.
