The passing rate for the BCBA exam continues to decline. In 2021, 60% of first time test takers passed the exam, and in 2025, onmly 51% of first time test takers passed. There is more commercially available study curriculum available now and even more resources found online. Why are more students failing this exam? We will review commonly used study strategies for the BCBA exam and then analyze what research suggests as evidence based strategies. BCBAs will learn what study strategies are effective and will learn ways to recommend these strategies to trainees or colleagues preparing for the exam.

The purpose of this training is to discuss the decline in the passing rate for the BCBA exam, review commonly used study strategies, and review evidence based study strategies from various research articles. By the end of the presentation, you will have recommendations for study strategies that you can bring to your trainees or colleagues preparing for the BCBA exam.
