About This Event
Most BCBAs I talk to don't need more health tips. You know about protein and water and sleep, and you could write the behavior plan for it in your head. What gets in the way is the moment itself. Lunch disappears, you get home with nothing left, and you hear yourself think: I'm so tired. I'll do it tomorrow. I already tried this and it didn't work. Each time the plan falls apart, it gets a little harder to believe the next try will go differently. I said those exact things for years. I lost 70 pounds working with a nutrition and fitness coach, and the hardest part still wasn't knowing what to do. It was doing it on the days I had nothing left. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is what changed that for me, and this course is the five-week ACT program I built for women who put themselves last, rebuilt for behavior analysts with the research behind it. There are five modules. Inner barriers covers thoughts, rules, and defusion, so a rule like "if I miss one workout, the whole week is ruined" has less pull on what you do next. Outer barriers covers your environment, sleep, nutrition, stress, and the social pressure at work and at home. Then values, committed action with if-then plans and a smallest version for hard days, and a long-term plan for the week you get off track, because that week is coming and it doesn't have to undo the rest. Fourteen short guided practices let you use each skill while you learn it. Take it straight through, or finish a module, practice for a week, and come back. You don't need Part 1, and if you took it, there's a short bridge at the start. You'll get a participant workbook, a one-page plan, and a BCBA freezer dinner guide.

BCBA, Certified Nutrition and Fitness Coach

Megan Patterson, MS, BCBA, gained close to 70 pounds in her first years as a BCBA. She needed a nap to get through her last session of the day, and she could write a goal for everyone on her caseload but herself. Using behavior analysis and ACT, she lost the weight, kept it off, and got her energy back. Today she is a certified nutrition and fitness coach with more than 10 years in ABA and a BACB ACE provider, and she teaches exhausted BCBAs to do the same. Instagram: @coachmeganpatterson.
