Bite-Size Behavior Analysis: Differential Reinforcement

Differential reinforcement is a foundational clinical tool to change behavior and support our clients in meeting their treatment goals. Participants will learn how reinforcement, which is a procedure designed to INCREASE behavior, can actually lead to behavior decreasing over time. Various clinical and practical examples will be discussed, as well as some corresponding behavior analytic concepts, including extinction, the Matching Law, parameters of reinforcement, response class, topography, and the functional relationship. By watching this presentation, RBTs will be better equipped to understand how differential reinforcement works and its importance as a behavior change procedure in their client’s protocols and in their daily lives.
